Default Rattling side view mirrors

Hi all!

After the usual wear and tear (and folding them when in public car parks) it seems my side view mirrors are rattling.

They seem loose and have a lot of "play" in them when in the normal position.

Do you guys know how I can tighten it back up again? Hopefully it is as simple as turning a screw or something... but right now, going over even the slightest bumpy road, it continually "knock knock knock" as it vibrates around.

Anyone know how to tighten it?

Thanks in advance!!!

If you are talking about the mirror housing, then you need to remove the trim that covers the back of the door where it is attached. There, you will find 2 - 3 bolts that can be checked and tightened. If it's the glass part that rattles, then you have to check inside the mirror housing and for this, you are best to have Honda look at it unless you really know what your are doing.

thanks for your info.

Its not the actual glass that rattles... its the part that moves... the housing on the top. Basically the part that "folds".. not the part that is static and does not move.

I think the swivel part is loose... perhaps from folding and unfolding them too often.

Is there any way to remove the glass part and look inside to tighten something?

Thx.

If it's the folding part that is loose, a fix may be very difficult. The mirror is held on by clips at the top and a gooey putty-like adhesive. Wait for a warm day, pull the mirror slowly and gently at the bottom till it is away from the housing, then lift it off the clips at the top. Save all the goo.

Ouch... damn... and i thought it would be easy to do.

I thought some people had those convex mirror replacements... and they all raved about how "easy" it was to remove those mirrors and replace them....

I guess I may just get some foam sticky tape and put it in in between the top swivelling part and the base to stop it rattling... removing the mirror sounds like it's going to crack it or bust something :-(

I have the convex driver's mirror installed and that was relatively easy, but taking off the mirror won't get you access to anything that will help you tighten up a loose housing swivel. The Helm manual shows do procedure for accessing the swivel part.

Mmm... did you mean the Helm manual does have a procedure for that?

I would've thought this is a relatively common issue among older S2000 (99,00,01) models.

Unfortunately I don't have the Helm manual... does anyone have it for download or have the procedure?

Thanks :-)

It only shows how you remove the glass and how to remove the whole assembly from the door.
To remove the assembly from the door, you must expose the trim piece on the inside and undo the 3 bolts that hold it to the door.
To get the mirror off, you are best to do this on a hot day so the adhesive is soft. Pull out on the bottom of the glass slowly and carefully. Once the glass is separated from the bottom of its mount, lift the whole glass up to unclip it from the housing. Save all the adhesive for re-use.

Okay, I'll try removing the mirror, and see if there is anything I can tighten from there that would help.

Do you think it would be best to tighten it from the base, or from the swivel part (the part inside the mirror)?

I can't say for sure. I've only seen the bolt on the back side of the door when I was doing something else and I've seen what's behind the mirror when I was changing it out. But I could not see anything that would be of use to you for tightening what you want to do.
