Default Rear Bumper Rests?

Aright lads,

Quick question for you guys, I am currently doing a refurb on my S2000 and will be swapping/treating any item that has rust. After removing the rear bumper I noticed that these rests will neeed to be removed/replaced and was wondering how I would go about that? (see pic)

Now the license plate mount is riveted to the chassis but I can't seem to find any rivet for these rests, I am guessing they are spot welded. Is there anyway to remove or would it be best to prep and paint while they remain on the body?

Cheers in advance.

Nick

Just had my bumper off addressing some issues as well related to water into the trunk. These are welded on. I sprayed everything back there with fluid film.

How was your trunk any rust under the carpet in the tool well? Also pull off the trunk rubber seal and inspect there as well, I sprayed under the seals as well for piece of mind

So no need to really move, just prep the surface then the usual POR15 or some other sort of paint?

I had left my car in the elements while I worked abroad for 3 months, it had a small hole in the roof which had let in 7 litres worth of water. surprisingly no rust, but I haven't checked under that rubber bung. Is it a double skin with an air gap or is the sheet metal inside the trunk the same as the one underneath the vehicle? (crap explanation)

Yeah, those aren't bad at all. Por-15 will make those like new again, and prevent further issues. Since those parts are not exposed to light, no UV issues to worry about.

Just use the full por-15 prep. Wire brush the really loose stuff off and degrease, spray metal-prep, rinse, let dry, paint.

POR15 pretty poor then with UV? Most of the use of POR15 is going to be underbody and suspension arms so guessing it won't be an issue.

Yeah, UV causes discoloration and I believe damage the coating of por-15. But you can just topcoat it with regular paint. Problem solved. They sell a por-15 paint for this, but it doesn't have to be theirs.
