Rear diff hot
Hi,
I just got my s2k a couple weeks back and haven’t clocked many miles on it (currently has 31k on odometer). I decided to change the transmission fluid and diff fluid last night since I don’t know if it’s ever been done. I used Honda’s manual transmission fluid for the transmission and Mobil 1 75w-90 LS for the diff.
Last night i went went out for a drive and I had a lot of heat in the cabin that I haven’t felt before (down by my legs). I was wearing shorts and sandles and would often get waves of warm air hit my feet. I had the A/C on most of the time as well. The back of the car near the tire wells was also radiating a ton of heat (space between tire and body) when I parked it and the diff was really hot to the touch when I checked it after parking. It was 85 degrees out and I was in a lot of typical suburb type traffic (not going very quick and no highway).
Im trying to figure out if this is just normal or if I may have screwed something up during the fluid change. Anyone else have any thoughts? Is it normal for the diff and transmission to get reall hot during normal driving?

Have you compared the temperature to the front diff?
The majority of the US is experiencing a heat wave. It's pretty warm out there. If you replaced all the fluids with the recommended type and the right amount of fluid then you should be fine.

Its normal for heat to come through those areas. Trans tunnel always gets very hot from the trans and header and back of the engine.
Rear mufflers radiate heat to the trunk. Diff doesn't get THAT hot...but "hot to the touch" could be anything above 98.6 degrees. Doesn't take much to burn your hand. 140F water can burn your hand.
Its also been abnormally hot out for most of the country.
You're fine.

On some longer road trips I too noticed the hump area becoming quite warm. I did a major job adding insulation of BQuiet and 3M Thinsulate. When I removed the carpet I found Honda had only a small piece of sound deadening material to the hump: about 6"x 3". After covering with BQuiet and Thinsulate, the heat issue was eliminated.
