Default Rear Diff Question

01 S2000 wtih 60,000 miles.

Searching for a drive train noise, I noticed that the output shafts on the diff have a lot of play in them. If one were yo grab the inboard CVJ, you can move them up and down more than one would expect.

Also, it seem like there is a lot of noise during deceleration in all gears. I have read posts about deceleration noise in 2nd and 3rd gears (clutch), but this is in all gears. I have also read posts regarding diff coming apart.

Is the play something to be concerned about?

Does the exhaust need to be removed to get the diff out?

Any recommendations on a shop Manual?

Any recommendations on places for parts to rebuild the diff?

Thanks!!

Don't let that play throw you off track. clutch buzz can happen in all gears. does it sounds like a grumbling vibration coming from behind the radio area? That clutch buzz.

Good advice to not let the play in the CVJs throw me off from diagnosing the buzz. Clearly the buzz is coming from the transmission. Prior to creating a post, I did a lot of searches and came to the conclusion that these diffs have a habit of coming apart. So I am concerned that the play in the diff's output shafts may be an indicator that a rebuild is a good idea (to avoid a blown diff).

Any thoughts on a good shop manual? I come from the VW world and Bentley's were the shop manual of preference. Is there a preferred shop manual for the S2000?

Thanks again!!

The difs do not come apart, people do not know how to operate a car.

i have been clutch dumping and drifting my car for the last 112,000 miles. I never do it from a dead stop. Launch this car at high rpm from a stop and you are asking for trouble.

Billman,
I thought the consensus (xviper thread)was that if you were to launch the s2k in the 1/4 mile was that a high rpm(6-7k) clutch dump was the way to go vs a low rpm clutch slip? Is there another way to do it that you prefer?
