rear differential mount noise?
hey everyone
i have a 2003 ap1 with 83k miles stock besides kw v3
i have a grinding/rubbing noise coming from the left side of the car. the noise is not constant i mostly hear it in the mornings when its cold or sometimes when I'm going slow (25mph) but goes away once i make a left turn.
a buddy told me my left differential mount was broken.
my question is would the differential mount make a grinding/rubbing/clunkng noise?
its the Rubber Assy., L. Diffrential Mounting.
i hear this mount is very common to break in s2k, if anyone has any info on this it would be appreciated.

Yes it will make a single grinding noise when turning left for the first time after letting the car sit overnight.

You can typically tell if your diff mount is broken (left one is most common I believe) by looking at it--they are fluid filled and you can usually see the yellow/red oil explosion all over your rear end (!).
Here's a good thread with photos of what a burst diff mount looks like (mine looked similar):

If the sound is more of a "clicking" sound you get on turns, that is a whole different issue (axle nut needs to be tightnened).

My busted diff mount caused a grinding noise on my first left turn after starting the car. It's not wheel bearings because mine are brand new, and it's not starter grind because the car is already running. Without fluid in the mount the stud on the diff can rub the metal shell of the mount and make the grinding noise.
