Rear Diffuser
I am looking at getting a rear diffuser for a 2001 S2000. While researching different options both on this site and elsewhere I didnt find an answer to this question:
Does a diffuser need to cover the whole of the underside of the car from the rear axle back to be effective? Or to reverse the question: Does a diffuser that is only about 1.5 foot wide do anything because the air can still get up into the underside of the car?
It seems that they will still help the air come out from under the car cleaner causing downforce at track speeds. I guess I jsut wanna verify that Ive got this correct.
Thanks,
J
PS Im hoping this will help with a "light" feeling backend when corning at speed.

One needs more of a description of the physical layout to make a conclusion regarding your question.
Look at wikipedia under a search for automotive diffusers. For downforce you need a long channel that expands near the rear to allow the air to expand and slow to induce downforce. The wings act as turbulence reducers as the air exits the rear of the car. I have an aluminum diffuser on my car but it's flat and only serves to reduce turbulance because it does not have an expansion channel.

I was looking at the plastic version of the apc rear diffuser but it appears to not have expanding channel. If I got this one I would only get the benifit of turbulance reduction. Is this correct?
The APC doesnt cover the whole of the rear of the car so Im curious if it will have even less effect?
Its looking like APCs product is not going to have the desired effect...
I believe you are talking about APR correct? And as far as the diffuser question, when I have talked to the really serious track guys who have been doing it for years, they say that the diffuser only helps minimally. Furthermore, it is probably most helpful on straights. What it sounds like you need is a wing to add downforce to the rear wheels. The APR GTC-200 is popular.
