Default Rear end Groaning

When you start out form a dead stop, there is a creaking noise coming from the rear end. The car has about 22,000 on it, and is an '01. The sound is kind of like a creaking door. That is the closest thing I can think of. There is no noticable play in the rear end, jsut the creaking. It seems to be getting progressively worse as time goes on. Does anyone know what this could be?

If it is like a "Creak, Creak" in one direction (forward or reverse) when engaging the clutch, but won't do it again in the same direction until going in the other direction (forward or reverse) then it is the axle nuts. Have them retorqued.

If it is in either direction with the steering wheel being full lock right or left, it is the limited slip diff and it is normal.

HTH,

Yeah, I think it will do it again in the same direction, but only after you brake, or downshift. That makes sense. The other thing I forgot to mention is that it seemed to start after my friend and I took the car out (it is my Dad's) and we did a couple of burnouts. That seemed to be what triggered it. How tight do the axle nuts need to be? I know my friends Jeep they were around 200 pounds...same deal?

Hmmmm. You're 15 years old, took your dad's S2000 out and did burnouts and possibly broke something and now you're sweating bullets trying to get it fixed before your dad finds out?

LOL! No, my Dad knows, and my Dad knows I took it out! I'm not that bad....The guy that was with me is my Dad's best friend, and a good friend of mine too. He was teaching me how to do nice burnouts. I am not sure if that is what caused it or not, but I think it may be.

Thread of the year or not...does anyone know what the torque of the nuts is supposed to be? Not sure what the big deal is... I came for help, not sure why I am being ridiculed.
