2. He asked about removing the ball joint as in pressing it in/out from the knuckle, not just freeing it up.
But to OP, yes, I have done it. I used the stanard ball joint removal/install tool rented from autozone to do it with knuckle still attached to car. Its way easier with it off the car, because the tool is very heavy and bulky, but it is possible. I just couldnt get the knuckle off the car at the time because axle was frozen in place, and had less than 24 hours to have balljoint installed before trackday, so I just did it while still installed on car.
I circled #1 that I used to push out ball joint, slipped it over actual joint (since wasnt worried about ruining it). then used #2 to push new ball joint in
