Default Reliable 300 HP from 2001

I am likely to purchase a stock 2001 in the next couple of weeks (sold my 2000 about a year ago). I would like to get a reliable 300 RWHP out of the car. What would be the best way to go, considering money to be an issue?

It would sound like your best option would be to get an aftercooled SC with a smaller pulley. You would be looking at 9k after you account for installation, AEM EMS and tuning...

...and gauges and wheels and suspension and hardtop and stereo and exhaust and header.

Wait did I say 9k I meant 15k

South Florida = no hard top for me, but would probably do some suspension upgrades. The sound system, never have a come across a worse stock system in a $30K car. Thanks for the advice!

Haha, yeah this car can become a money pit. But pertaining to your question, a supercharger will definitely give you the power that you want. There are two companies that makes SC's: Comptech and Vortech.

Comptech's system is CARB legal, but their aftercooler kit is extra $$.

Vortech's system is also legal, their aftercooler is included and is less expensive than Comptech's.

In terms of which system is better is subjectable.

I thought all superchargers (vortec/comptech) are all carb legal here in California

No emissions testing here in sunny Florida, so I should be ok with either, I know there are 7000 threads comparing the two superchargers. Will just the kit get me to 300 at the wheels?

Both systems are legal.

In Florida and other hot climates, it is recommended that you have an aftercooler system installed as well. People tend to have anywhere from 275-290 to the wheels with a typical install. You'll need proper tuning and maybe an EMS (engine management system) to get the 300 to the wheels.

Thanks everyone for the advice. Engine management system = how much $$? So, I'm probably be looking at 8 to 10 grand, and trying to find someone that knows what they are doing, correct? Anyone know a reliable tuner in south Florida?
