Default Relocating battery

Hi, well...I'm planning on getting the Hawker Odyssey, since loosing 13+lbs does matter to me, and I'm not running any sort of extensive stereo system. I'm thinking that it might fit over by the fuel pump/tank area...there is a decent sized space back there behind the drivers seat, although I may just be on crack

The reason I'm thinking of relocating it is because, I'd like to go turbo in the long ahead future, and "clean up" under the hood a little.

Anyway, I did a search and I'm wondering if anybody else has relocated there battery to the trunk area, but not down in the big "pit"

BTW-the added wiring will not be more then 2lbs

I would be reluctant to putting a battery that close to the fuel tank.

But that's just me

I thought about that...but I'm planning on taking my time installing it...I really don't NEED the car, so it could be down for weeks for all I care, but obviously I'm going to have all the materials to install before I do, as my current battery works.

Planning to have it secured very well and also cover, if not also electrical tape over the terminals as an extra precaution

What about explosion protection for the fuel tank? It could happen.

I'm just thinking of situations that you might want to deal with when doing the install....

What if you spin and hit a wall backwords? or if someone rear ends you? Having a battery right next to the fuel line would make me think twice. You could put it were the tool kit used to be and than make a custom cover/roof to cover it up. This would protect the battery and allow you to use the trunk plus the center of gravity would be lower.

hmm...didn't know about the roll bar stuff...thats interesting...maybe I will have to rethink this, probably be easier to wait till I get the battery and then just start trying to see where it would fit, and be remote, yet accesible

Even though you're getting a light weight battery you're gonna gain a lot of weight by relocating it.
Weight of mounting brackets and low gauge wires running the entire length of the car adds up.

I thought about the wires...I really don't think they will be more than 2lbs, and brackets shouldn't be more than 1lb over what they already are...

however, I've now started to consider under the passenger seat or behind my seat (as I'm short, 5' 6" and its always moved up a good distance)

the battery is only 7 1/4"Long, 3 1/8" wide, and 6 5/8" High...
