Default removing old thread lock from bolts

Dont know if this is the right thread to post this, if its not MODS please move it to the right area.

On to the question. I am gonna rebolt the face of my rims back to the hoops, but have old thread locker on the bolts.

I wanna know which products is best to remove the old thread lock before I bolt them back down. I tried wiping them off but it doesn't get off all the old thread lock.

Thanks in advanced

I would not worry about it. I have a hard time taking that stuff off with solvent. Definitely put new locker on. It is not a part you want vibrating them off.

If the thread compound is like superglue (CA), which some are, acetone sometimes works.

Acoording to Loctite: the stuff polymerizes into a solid plastic that won't disolve.

I guess you need a wire brush and elbow grease.

Use a die that is the correct thread pitch to chase the old threadlock from the threads.
