It's rivited in about 6 places, plus some cable screws, plus screws under the weatherstripping.

Is the top garbage?

I just did this job last weekend.

Yes, you can take the soft top off, and just leave the frame...why one would do that I have no idea. Are you planning to replace the top?

Or are you getting a hardtop and want to sell the soft top...that sounds more likely.

The soft top is riveted in 17 places. 2 up front to the frame for the tension wires, 4 behind the windows riveted to the frame, and 11 to rivet it to the rain rail (top can be removed without taking out these rivets). Taking out the rivets is easy...just a 5/32 drill bit.

There are also 16 screws under the weatherstipping and 2 more for the tension wire's spring. Also 11 10mm nuts in the back.

You can probably take the top out in 3-4 hours. I did it in 2 with a knife tho If you pull the roll hoops out, it's cake, and the top will be intact.

If you are removing it to replace with a new top. Just cut it out. Doesn't take long to get out really. If looking to sell it, just pull the whole frame and top out together.
