Default Replacement batteries

My battery appears to be dying. Three quick questions:

1. Who has had a battery replaced by Honda under warranty?

2. Who has sucessfully installed an Optima battery? Comments on fit, price, weight?

3. Who has sucessfully installed an Odyssey battery? Comments on fit, price, weight?

I have a yellow top optima battery in my S. Its a tight fit. I paid 179.00 for the battery and about 20 for misc. parts. In order to install the optima you need to get a new tray and cut it to fit. You need to remove the stock batt. tray otherwise the batt. sits up to high. You also need to get a new tie down as well. I had to custom fit both the new tray and the tie down. It will fit but it takes some work. I can help you with it if you'd like.

Here's some pic's

I just replaced the batery in my car (31k Miles, 29 months) with a Douglas battery from Batteries Plus. It cost about $55 and was a perfect fit. Our battery size is group 51.

This was about the same price and less hassle than having Honda warrantee the battery. On the original battery there is a 2 year full replacement warrantee and then a pro-rated warrantee for the last year, not including labor. The Honda (Panasonic) battery cost about $90, so my pro-rated price was about $38 + $20 labor.

Both the Optima and Odyssey bateries are larger and heavier than the original. You will need to design an alternate mount for them like darknight1999 did. There nice to have in cars with high-power sound systems, but add weight to the front of the car.

I have an Odyssey 680 installed in my S. It fits within the stock battery mounting and it saves 16 pounds of weight. I paid $120 but krazik got it for $99 through batteries.com I think. This battery is not for you if you are driving in sub32

As stated, the Odyssey PC 680 will fit in our cars and will work. However, it is rated at 280 CCA wheras OEM batteries, and correct replacements, run about 430 CCA. The smaller, lighter Odyssey might be a good solution for some, just be aware that you're giving up some starting power, especially in cold weather.

The Odyssey PC 925 gives sufficient capacity at 470 CCA, but is wider than stock (and heavier).

Had mine replaced under warranty at 2000 miles....basically the old one would only hold a charge for a few days. They replaced with a new one and still had some problems during the winter with the car sitting a lot.

Since none of the aftermarket solutions looked especially compelling, I had Honda replace the stock battery under warranty.

The replacement is a "factory honda" battery, group 51, 410 CCA but is a different battery than the one OEM with the car. No "status eye", and conventional filler caps. I had the parts guy double-check, and it is evidently the one specified for S2000's and the only group 51 Honda battery available in the US.

That's the same experience we had when S2K Fan and I went to the dealer to buy a replacement battery. It's black and does not say Panasonic on it.
