Replacemnt ECU's Are they worth it?
What's a "hassle?" AEM or another "standalone" will have to be programmed for your vehicle and your mods. Spoon and Mugen can't be tuned and may or may not make more power for you and your mods, gas, environment, etc.
You might want to search for a specific ECU for more info.

You can buy "piggyback" computers that interface with the OEM ECU, and they are programmable. Some of these can be pretty difficult as well (i.e. AEM EMS), but others are usually not (i.e. Apexi V-AFC).
The EMS is standalone. It doesnt piggyback.
Hondata doesnt have one for the S because our ECU is some bizzarre hybrid OBD-IIb. Nothing else like it on Honda's. Even the RSX ECU wont convert.
Too bad too, Hondata's stuff is nice.
The only good piggyback is the HKS PFC F-Con. They make in the JDM but not UDM. They make the equivalent of the Vafc but no Vtec adjustment.
Oh well!
