Replacing the knock sensor when changing the starter?
agree. Really no reason unless you break it. And if you do break I think OEM is the best bet. I have seen some complain of issues with aftermarket ones.
I had to replace mine, not because of the starter bolt, but because I had to replace the o-ring on the water outlet on the block, which besides a lot of cussing, involves cramming your hand behind, around and under the intake manifold, and during working on that managed to push my hand into the knock sensor and break it.

Thanks for the quick reply!

A broken or bad knock sensor has nothing to do with the car’s ability to start.

Every now and then, couple of times a year really, I will get the starter to drag a bit making the gear stay engaged and "grind" on disconnect. Someday I will get off my can and clean the starter out. I suppose I should get a knock sensor in anticipation of breaking it like so many have testified.
