Default rerouting start button

I was thinking of rerouting the start button positive (negative) lead to the emergency blinker positive (negative) lead. That way, the emergency blinker has to be on to start the car. That shouldn't affect the emergency light's use, and adds an extra layer of theft protection. Anyone see a problem with this?

To keep it simple, I just installed a hidden toggle switch to disable the start button.

You might look silly if you have to turn on your flashers every time you start your car.

If you route your start button through your flashers, you would have to tell anyone you have start your car about this. That means that any service mechanic and tire installer would know your secret. And if someone was "stalking you", watching you come and go, they could figure out that the flashers went on every time you started your car.

And since the car's immobilizer prevents the car from starting without the key anyway, I'm not sure what this could possibly accomplish unless you are trying to prevent the car from being stolen when someone has access to your keys.

My car has an alarm system installed with a battery backup. They can't stop the alarm by disconnecting the battery. It also has an alarm pager. You might want to consider something like this.

But then you'd be showing everyone you won the street race before it even began!

I can just imagine the looks on everyone's faces when you're flipping on the hazards in parking lots, malls, schoolyards, etc....

Besides, don't people usually steal stuff from the car rather than the car itself?
