Default Rev Limiter questions

I'm sure numerous of you have hit the rev limiter a time or two, my question is, is it bad for it? I always steer clear of hitting it, but I will say I've slightly hit it a few times, Ever since hitting it it makes me uneasy not knowing if it's bad or not lol, I was watching this video and saw him hit it practically everytime so....

I dont like doing it but the rev limiter is a built in fail safe so that you dont over rev it.just don't hit it while down shifting

Thankfully I never have, I always take extra precaution when downshifting, thanks for the information though!

from my experiences for the best time or to be the "fastest" you let it red line a bit before shifting. it wont really hurt anything. as stated they're there to keep everything in good working order. you can red line to achive the full potential of the car. lets say from a 50 roll i let it hit the "red part" and when it flashes three times i shift to third and its perfect. no hitting the "wall" as in red line too long. but if you red line too long it will lock and you WILL not go into gear. thats my experience

Yeah be super careful look up cracked retainers. A mechanical over rev is what causes that

my last two turbo cars had soft rev limiters, that was really nice, but to get the soft effect they must dial back power slightly before redline I think.

I used to hit the limiter a couple of times each lap with certain track configurations with no ill affects. Sometimes a shift right before a turn that would then require a downshift is just not the fastest way around so I found that reaching the limiter and even sitting on it for a second or so worked better. My AP1 never showed any engine problems after numerous track days.
