Rev Limiter or Something Else?

Rev Limiter or Something Else?
I felt something very strange while driving my stock '06 yesterday (~53k). I was accelerating from a traffic light on a section of road with a 55mph speed limit. I couldn't resist a little VTEC action, so I was accelerating hard. Once I hit the rev limiter, the car bogged down noticeably? I'm pretty sure that I've hit the rev limit before, but it felt more like a plateau rather than a loss of power. I shifted to second and accelerated like normal up to (maybe a bit beyond) the speed limit. I didn't notice anything unusual the rest of the drive.
I did a search, but couldn't find any previous threads that matched my symptom. Thanks in advance.

Sounds like you hit the rev limiter. It's a cut out, not a plateau (on my '06 anyway). My car is Gernby FlashPro tuned with s 3600 rpm VTEC and will hit the rev limiter too easily in lower gears. I put a red line warning alarm on it so I can shift before the rev limiter cuts out. I think the rev limiter cuts the fuel (injectors) but if it's the ignition someone will clarify. Either way it works.

I've once, stupidly, experienced the cold cut-off akin to "hitting a brick wall" around ~5.5k on my AP1.
However, [when fully warmed up], I often take her to redline all the time, and often bounce 1-3x off the fuel cut-off that's above 9,000 RPM -- look for the flashing light at the end of the RPM curve -- and it's fairly gentle (not that "brick wall" feeling). I may have felt that once at redline fuel-cutoff, but it's not the norm for redline on my AP1.
I've heard that redline fuel cut-off behaves differently due to different variables, but I never figured out what exactly.
