one mechanic told me that the Rick's aren't any stronger while the J's were but I am not sure why he said that so do not quote me on it.

Guys, there isn't any difference. J's Racing is buying them from the same manufacturer as Rick's is. Rick's is just better at buying and less greedy than J's.

The decision to stay stock or go 4.44's has been driving me nuts for months now. I think the 4.77's are for a select few.

As far as I know, all the gears, 4.11, 4.3, 4.44 and 4.77 are made by Mazda.

The reason there is probably a shortage right now is that the RX-8 is sucking up all 4.44 gear production.
