I am just thinking that the metal was molten when it was cast - so it was pretty hot then, and we obviously are not going to get it that hot while running it in the car - so what are we doing when we drive gently so as not to get the metal too hot ?

I just, and I mean just ( my fingers are still greasy) finished the 4:77 install on my car. I dropped the diff and brought it to a pro to do the ring & pinion install. Just put the diff back in tonight and did my first 7 mile heat cycle. I found the same post on the net about the oil temp and I am convinced the more I read on the topic that proper break in is critical. I will be doing several short heat cycles tomorrow and take it real easy for a few hundred miles. I will repost when it's safe to romp on it with my impressions. The installed only charged me $ 100 , Yes he is a pro and has done lots of Ring & pinions setups
I got the last 4.44 and they are being installed now, along with the tranny/clutch TSBs being done....can't wait to get the car back. Rick and Strat, I hope the deal goes through. If it does, that will be great!
