right rear clunking noise
Hello,
I got myself a 04 s2k not to long ago and I have this noise coming from my right rear that I want to ask about.
I hear it most of rough roads, its more of a hollow clunking sound that anything. Hard to describe but it sound like a piece of heavy wooden board is bouncing up and down (kind of like when you close a drawer on a wooden table) when I'm driving down a bumpy/rough road. It is only heard on the right rear side. First I thought it was the spare tire not screwed in tight enough, but i tighten as much as I could and I still have that sound. Anyone know what it can be or any experiences with it? Or maybe ask me some questions you think will help me pinpoint the noise.
Thanks
edit: car is stock. hear it with top up or down.

okay, lets say it is a bad or loose shock. How harmful is it to continue driving the car? I mean I will probably order a new oem shock. Doubt, i have the know-hows or time to install it myself. Any harmful lasting damage to the car if the shock is loose and I drive it, or should I just have it towed to a shop that can help me with the install. And on average how long do stock shocks last on these car?

If it is a blown shock, over time, it will cause the bushings to wear faster and impacts handling. If the shock is loose at the top hat, it can rip the metal from the shock mount.
Always buy shocks in pairs...right & left. Don't just replace one.
