Default Rounded diff drain bolt. Any tips for removal?

Hey guys. Thought I could get it off now it's just rounded. 24mm socket won't grip. Any tips for me? Really need to get this thing off. Thanks.

Don't you just hate that?

Maybe try wrapping a rubber band around the bolt and putting your box-end wrench over that? It's all about creativity at this point especially with an annoying bolt like the diff bolt.

Are you using a 6-point socket, or 12? 6 will always grip better and is less likely to round things.

Might be able to get enough grip with vice grip pliers, too.

Harbor Freight impact sockets are good too. They are six point and pretty thick wall.

I would suggest cutting a slot in the center and use a impact screwdriver to remove it. This means you'll have to replace the bolt.

last resort you can cut a slice into it with a cut off wheel, then use a skinny pry bar to break it free.
or u can use a chisel to break it free, put the tip of the chisel into the corner of the slot u cut and hammer it loose.

try the 6 point socket first tho. be careful in the future if your using harbor freight sockets or wrenches, cause they stretch and can cause stripping.

good luck!

Thanks for the tips guys. I looked and it is indeed a 12 point socket. Damn. Do you think a 6 point will still grip it? The 12 grips but only barely.

Using the cutting method, are you saying cut like a small pie piece out of the bolt then use a chisel/screwdriver and bang it with a hammer?

Use a 15/16 socket, 6 point.

It is .006 smaller and will work like a charm.
