Default Royal purple or mobil 1

is royal purple really that good? im debating on which one to use mobil1 10/30 or royal purple 5/30. i never had a problem with mobil1 syntethic ive use it on all my hondas. when i first got my s2000 its running on quaker state 5/30 peak performance and thats what im still running still. from the other forums ive read they said the firts time you change to synthetic its not as great till the 2nd oil change, is that true? and does royal purple do the same thing?

Mobil1 is inexpensive, readily available, and works just fine.

mobile 1 is a great product. However many people on here running have had trouble with the cam chain tensioner. While the two have never been officially linked it sure makes you wonder. Royal purple is a far superior synthetic oil so if you can afford it thats what i would run.

Mobil1 at Costco for under $4/quart FTW. Royal purple I don't personally trust. You could always run Redline if money's burning a hole in your pocket - I run that in the trans and diff, but not the engine.

My Z burned a lot of mobil1 for some reason and it really confused me. I then switched to royal purple and it was perfect. I wasnt burning any oil at all. I then did a search finding links to wrxatlanta and 300zxclub.com saying that mobil1 has changed over time and lost its high quality composition. Im not sure about these cars but in my Z i always stick with royal purple over mobil1

I used to run mobil1 in my ap1, but it seemed to burn off very quickly- my oil consumption rate was quite high.

After doing a lot of research on oil consumption on this site, it seems a lot of other people also had problems with oil consumption when using mobil1.

I have since switched to an amsoil synthetic oil, and my oil consumption went way down and the car just seems to run smoother. I'd recommend considering amsoil amongst your other oil considerations.

^^ awesome.

I just switched from Mobil1 and Castrol Syntec to RP. The RP seems to run nicer and smoother. However, I noticed that the RP only has an "SL" energy saving rating. The Mobil1 and Castrol had a SM.

Is this significant?

I might start using AMSOIL or Redline after reading your post. Where did you find the data for all that?
