a ruined engine?
no damage what so ever remember that each time you do an oil change to your motor it takes a while for the pump to get the oil at the appropriate places and usually the oil light stays on for a while until sufficient oil has gone through the oil pump. Just make sure you do not go to this stupid guy again not even for air check to your tires!
Your car should be fine. Don't worry to much about it or you'll start hearing things in your car and wonder if that was ever there before. Hopefully it'll never happen again. But, if something does happen to your car, you could always trace it back to that incedent and put the blame towards that tech guy. Just get it document for future reference.
As an oil guy, i agree that no damage was done to the engine - there is residual oil and anti-wear additives in the oil that would mitigate any damage.
But cdelena's post has a lot of weight to it - if the oil pump is cavitating or completely empty of oil for 20 secs, then some metal to metal lidkely did occur, and it is the bearings that are most affected, as they contain the softest material.
