Rusted "Vtec Solenoid"

Rusted "Vtec Solenoid"
As usual, I would like to begin by stating that I've used the search feature extensively to no avail. I believe the part that I am referring to is in fact the VTEC Solenoid. (About 1/2 the size of a roll of quarters on the passenger side of the motor at the front towards the bumper)
This part has rusted and is a severe eyesore in an otherwise spotless engine bay...here are my questions:
Should I replace this part? If no, could I paint over it with any sort of "rust resistant" paint?
If I've left out some important portion of the fact pattern please let me know so we (well, I guess ya'll) can diagnose the issue. VTEC still engages, no mechanical problem, just a pimple on the motor.
PS: Please be gentle if this is a ridiculous noob question...and, for the record - ya'll is a word!
