Default S2000 JDM Compression Test

Hi Guys,

I done a compression test yesterday myself at my garage and this is how I did it.

I took the car for a 5 minute drive and returned to my garage. This was enough to warm up the engine.

I removed all 4 sparkplugs, and I disconnected the injectors electrical supply.

I cranked the engine for about 10 seconds with wide open throttle, and these are the results.

1st Bore 260psi
2nd Bore 261psi
3rd Bore 260psi
4th Bore 260psi

(JDM engine has a 11.7CR)

Are these readings good? Are they low or normal ?

My motor is running fine, but when I drive for about 30 minutes under 4,000rpm (Sunday Cruising),
I notice a cloud of white smoke behind the car.... (This will happen for about a couple of seconds)

I rev the engine up and everything will be fine again.

Last night I took the car out, drived it very very hard for about 25 minutes, which I consumed a quater of the tank of fuel, and it didn't even smoke a bit.

The car seems more happy when you race it than when you drive it normally.

The oil is very fine, clear and level ok.

The water is also fine. I only noticed that the water will rise about a quater of an inch in the holding tank when the engine is running and hot, then it will return to the same level when it cools down.

My car had these mods done a month ago.

1: Mugen N1 ECU.
2. Mugen Fan Switch.
3. Mugen Thermostat.
4. Mugen Radiator Cap.
5. Megan Test Pipe with out the Sensor. (Sensor unpluged from socket)

I'm also running the car on a good dosage of Nos Octane booster (the racing formula) to compensate for the fuel as my car is a JDM model and it requires a high grade of fuel.

Any suggestions what might the white smoke be... cause I'm a little bit worried

Cheers

Neville

On 11CR healthy engines the compression would be around 225-240PSI.

Since yours has a CR of 11.7 (JDM), the results will be higher then the 11 engine.

Can someone confirm this ?

yes you almost never see numbers that close.... thats a good block man. and the nos stuff is junk.. they are talking points it raises if you look into it. like 0.1-0.3.. get your hands on some torrlen(sp way way off) at your local hardware store and mix it up.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for your replies...

Just got back from my garage...

I found the Water reservoir about a quarter of inch less then I left it yesterday.

Yesterday before running my motor very hard for about 20 mins, or so, I marked the water level.

When I returned to my garage, the water level was about quarter of an inch higher, thats cause of hot water expansion.

But today before starting the engine again, I found it a quarter of an inch less then yesterday.

This is driving me nuts.

Oil is very nice and clear, Compression is 260psi on 4 cylinders,

I don't know whats happening...

Does all this has to do with the Mugen ECU...

boosted 4g63s and 6g72s have been known to lift the head off the block under high boost but returns to normal when cooled.

i doubt this is your problem.

pressure test the cooling system. do a leakdown test even though compression was ok.

Neville - who installed the Mugen thermostat? I'm taking a wild guess here but when I received the Mugen thermostat, the nipple was positioned upside down in relation to the rubber gasket. I double checked the helms manual and looked at the position of the stock thermostat and adjusted the gasket to be at the same position as the nipple. You could double check that.

Can't think of anything else.
