S2000 problems (dealer and mechanical)
The Under the Hood forum has forced me to rethink buying an S. After reading such posts and doing some homework on the clutch, rear end probs, compression issues, etc...... and seeing how Honda is dealing with them I have become a little hesitant. I dont want anyone to talk me into buying one I just want to know peoples feelings on the car since buying it....I love the car, I just dont want to be stuck with a car that Honda wont or cant stand behind
Brushman - where do you take your car? I'm the yellow S usually seen stuck in traffic on Telegraph, or parked at engineering south at the GM tech center.
CBB. I understand your hesitation. As the owner of an S and another limited production car (which is discussed on a board I moderate) I can promise you the happy ones aren't heard from enough. This is absolutely one of the best boards about documenting EVERY problem - none of which I've experienced in 20k miles of serious flogging, including 12 autocrosses this year and 2 high-speed jaunts to TN.
By the way, I had one of our company cars yesterday - a '03 Viper. Makes me appreciate how nice the S really is. Even my fianc

you hear about the problems associated with this car (in detail) mainly b/c we are adamant about documenting them. this is a result of the number of intelligent, professional owners here that not found on most boards. we are here to assist each other whether it's an issue of how to clean your car to complicated fixes. no one here is afraid to say "damn, i had this problem or that problem." we are mostly fanatics about the S here, but we're not too proud to admit it's faults (mostly..haha). you will find problems or complaints with EVERY car out there. on most boards, they don't focus on the the negatives, b/c they only worry about racing, looks, etc. we do it all here! this is by far the best board you will ever encounter IMHO.
overall, this car is fantastic. it's more than i ever dreamed. i had so many choices and this car was not at the top of the list. i bought this one spontaneously and b/c i had to get a car sooner than expected. i planned to sell it shortly after i got it...then i drove it home and i fell in love. i don't plan on selling this car anytime soon now. once you drive it, you will understand.
ultimately, the choice is your's . this car is not for everyone, but you probably already know that with your extensive research. good luck!

I have owned many sports cars over the years. Just by the nature of the type of car we own we should expect some issues. I must say the the problems I have experienced with my 2001 have been taken care of for the most part by my Honda dealer. I had a 92 Porsche Carrara and that had more problems than I have experienced with my S2000. Over all my experience has been very favorable both with the car and with Honda. I think it has to do with a couple of things, firstly how you maintain and handle the car, how good your local dealer is and making sure you set you expectations to be more in line with a sports car and not with an family hauler. Good Luck with your decision.

I was without my car overnight for the clutch TSB. When I got the car back I realised how much I really like/love the car. I was getting soured by all the negative posts about problems with the car, I was thinking of selling it. I'm not going to though. I don't abuse my car, I drive it! 25 thou miles since Nov last year. I haven't had any major problems with it, and the Dealer where I bought it has been great so far. Any sports cars you buy will have problems, especaily if it is used for racing and has unsurpassed technology under the hood.

No clutch drops. No autocross/track racing.
but the differential issue should be addressed by Honda. It should be the strongest part of the driveline!
I plan on purchasing the extended 7 year / 100,000 mile warranty.

I read where this occurs and pisses off the owner (rightly so), and the piss-off usually revolves around dealer warranty BS. (this is a generalization so before you tell me that your(s) (not you Gowgom) is the unique experience in the group, I believe that you exist)
How do we (collective S2000 owners) know that the differential problem wasn't address by Honda and new models have a fix. 2002's could have as many 15000+ miles on them and are there any with differential problems?
****My differential is probably crumbling as I type****
There are 100's of reasons a part(s) goes bad other than poor design / week part choice.
When you consider that a car is produced of hundreds of thousands of manufactured, in volume, parts (most by 3rd parties) and assembled by multiple people, it a wonder they run at all.
Oh yea, I plan on purchasing the extended 7 year warranty. (cause ya never know)
It seems to me that there are as many "no problem cars" as "wholy shit look at these problem cars"
If an when it happens to me, I will be right here letting the world know how much it sucks.
