I dont know if the problem really lies in the cars or in Honda. It seems the extended warranties are becoing worthless because Honda just says "it was your fault because you drove the car to hard"

Brushman-I would like to think the newer models have been improved upon but I know the clutch problem has not been fixed. I have a friend with an 02 (3500 miles) and the clutch is a piece of S*&^. I know the majority of the cars are running very well and have no problems but it seems to me as though you will be buying a new clutch not to long after buying the car. That is a problem in my mind...

Here's an old thread on differential problems https://www.s2ki.com/forums/showthread.php?...p?threadid=8572. I'm sure not all members voted since there were 14 / 120 votes for those with differential problems. And, of course, this only tallies board members, not all owners out there.

Fortunately, I haven't had any run-around on repairs so far...

This has nothing to do with resentments, this has to do with making an educated purchase. Every car on the market has problems I just thought I would get peoples opinions on the problems that the S has. People who dont ask questions before buying are the ones that have the resentments...I will get all the info I need and make MY decisions from there...this thread is meant to be nothing but informative... My reason for the post to you was to answer your question about Honda fixing problems in the new cars.....

Overall this car has fewer problems than most any sportscar you'll find, at any price. Unfortunately some Honda *dealers* and/or *DSMs* (district service managers) have not stood behind the car as owners started finding weak points. Presumably they've become used to the idea of street-racing ricer boys who truly do abuse their Civics, and have mistakenly made the same blanket assessment of S2000 owners. (Or anyway, that's the only scenario I can think of to explain some of the horrible treatment we've heard about.)

On the other hand, some dealers have been willing to bend over backward to help S2K owners. Many of them are documented here (and more will be soon, by the looks of C3's new forum feature, currently in beta-test). I'd suggest searching the board and asking in your local regional forum about good and bad dealer experiences. The car is worth that bit of extra effort, IMO.

CBB,

There are numerous owners who have had minimal or no problems with the car. I own a MY '00 purchased around October 4th, 1999. It's one of the first ones. I've had one fairly minor mechanical problem that was dealt with under the extended warranty without any hassles. My car goes to the track regularly and into the canyons around my house more often than that. I don't come home and post about NOT having problems. If you're unsure don't buy the car. I'd hate for you to happen to get the one that does have some problems and then hate us . However, I wouldn't trade my experience with this car for the world. It's everything I've ever wanted in a car and continues to awe and amaze me, even almost 3 years after I purchased it.

I too never had major problems after 19000 miles of spirited driving (including occasional 7k clutch drops and ton of VTEC)

Only problem I had was the minor rattle coming from the convertible top which was fixed under warranty.
