Default S2000 Steering Angle Sensor Replacement

I've done extensive research on replacing the Steering Angle (Torque) Sensor. The AP1 part has been discontinued so as a replacement, you can still get the AP2 part or the CR part. I really don't know wha the difference is between the two part numbers other than the CR part is about $70 cheaper. I to know the CR went back to the quicker steering ratio but can't say if it's the Steering Angle Torque Sensor that determines the ratio or if it's the steering box, or a combination of the two.

To me, it seems the AP1 is a better match to the CR part but nobody has confirmed they have used that part as the replacement on an AP1. A few have used the AP2 part with success so, even though it appears to work, is it the best choice?

Part numbers are:
53101-S2A-A02 - AP1 - Discontinued
53101-S2A-S01 - 2008/2009 CR- Available
53101-S2A-A03 - 2004/2009 AP2 - Available

If there was just one part available the choice would be easy, however, since there are two choices available and I'm not clear on the differences or if the CR part works. Anyone with experience that can shed some light on this?

BTW, I've tried to get an answer from Honda, through my local dealership, and after several weeks, they claim nobody at American Honda can confirm which part is the better choice.

The ratio of a rack is based on the distance it travels so the gear ratio is internal to the rack mechanism. The steering angle sensor just measures that. As far as if they are interchangeable it is possible they are, but cannot answer that correctly. Just because it may fit, doesn't mean it would work. Hopefully someone here can chime in on their experiences with it

Thanks. The answer I keep getting is the AP2 part works, nobody seems to know if the CR part will work. Guess I'll order the AP2 part.

Did you end up doing this? I'm reading conflicting information if loosening the rack guide is necessary. Seeing a lot of homemade "44mm" wrenches in those threads, or people buying the official Honda wrench, but the service manual procedure on 17-54 doesn't reference needing to loosen.
