S2000 transmission repair/replacement
Hello, I am a relatively new S2000 owner and my transmission has recently been acting up. It has burnt a clutch and rattled the new one loose once. Right now it occasionally grinds in second, makes a weird rubbing sound in neutral and the clutch seems to be acting up again soon. So my question is: what should I do, should I repair my transmission or replace it entirely? And if I replace it, where should I go to replace it, and what's a reasonable price? Any help would be greatly appreciated and I want to get this thing back in working order as soon as possible. Thanks!

Head on over to the Bay Area forum of s2ki, read this thread, and call up Joey (he's near South SF):

I am not convinced the issue is with the transmission based on the info so far. Still could be an issue with the clutch and flywheel or pilot and throw out bearing. Who ever installed these last could have fouled up as well.
I had a clutch that would vibrate loose on me until I figured out it was the aftermarket two piece flywheel that was causing it. If the clutch becomes loose, the friction disc can drag on the flywheel giving you a noise and the clutch pedal free play will increase.

I'll send a sound file once I get home from school

Possibly if the friction disc is dragging from the pressure plate coming loose from flywheel. Typically a sound in nutria without clutch being depressed would be either the throw out bearing, or the shaft bearings in the transmission if it were on the trans end. But your clutch coming loose makes me suspect.

Its the clutch dragging.
It sounds like you had a new one installed? Whoever did it didn't know about some of the peculiarities of the S clutch, and did it wrong, and now you are paying the price in ever grinding shift.
This is causing extra wear to your trans. Each shift grind puts a tiny amount of wear on your synchros. After a while it can add up to a real trans issue (but it would be a long while and many miles). Mostly its just a real annoyance having a car with the worlds best shifter, only to have it feel more like agricultural equipment due to bad clutch install.
