Default s2k brains...I need your expertise

so here is my problem...i wrecked my car labor day weekend. the body shop called

today and gave me an estimate of $8000. im no expert and im assuming a lot, but i

think that is a bit low. you can see from walking around the car that its not straight any

more. the front driverside is pushed way to the right of the rear wheels. also, all the

cross members in the front have been pushed in to the front of the engine. is the frame

repairable if so how stable will it be, if not what can i say that will show proof it shouldnt

be fixed? here are some pics...

in this one you can see the driver side pushed in

please help. any info and insight will be greatly appreciated...im going to the body shop tomorrow to show them the damage they missed

IMO you should get more than one estimate.

Let's go over this.....

You wrecked your car, which will help drive the insurance rates up for the rest of us...

You want our help to get your car totalled, which will contribute to even higher insurance rates for the rest of us....

Am I missing something?

There is no way they're going to declare a 2006 car totalled with that amount of damage. You can quibble over the price, and even the expected quality of repair work, but your insurance company isn't going to triple their payout because you're not happy.

Man, I picked my wrecked s up cheap (the one picutred in my signature). I put about $4000 in parts and paint in it, granted my uncle and I did all the paint and body work. $8000 is a God send, especailly if you are not in too big of a hurry. Hunt around for some good deals on parts, they're out there.

If you can't afford the insurance maybe you should consider another car. Performance cars cost more to insure because the risk is higher. If that's a problem for you, there are lots of alternatives.

most companies will total a car for 65-70percent damage (out of the current street value of your car as it today)

you really have a saying in this case, it's pretty much between the adjuster and the insurance company, guess which side is he/she on?

you would probably have to get it up near 18,000 for them to declare it totalled. It does look like some pretty bad frame damage though. obviously the airbags deployed and those aren't cheap.

What a beautiful car to be wrecked.

Nah. When we bent the frame on Thunder (Tripper Cook's autocross Miata) the frame had to be pulled, but the car (worth much less than any S2000) wasn't anywhere near being totaled. Sometimes it's enough to push a wreck over the top, and sometimes it's not.
