S2k redline blinking
the tach reads a little high. even though it blinks at 9000rpm, it really isnt there, its more like 8700 or so... thats why you get the blinkies. i just shift after the first blink...dont really care to get that extra 100rpms

after my comment. I actually got a call from a friend of mine yesterday about this. He wasn't sure either.
I got all excited when I read the title of this thread just to find out that it doesn't tell how to disable that annoying blinking when you are above 8700! Mine blinks for some reason too!
joking of course!

I'm kind of curious......................why would anyone want to rev their engine to and/or exceed 9000rpm?????? Maximum HP is achieved @8400rpm. Anything much beyond that just runs the risk of serious engine damage. JMO
the reason is so that when you shift gears, you will be at a higher rpm in the next gear than if you were to shift gears at 8400.
for ex: from 8400 in first , shifting into second, you drop out of vtec. if you are racing or driving hard, there will be a huge difference in power for a second, which makes a difference between winning and losing
plus you still have more power from 8500 to 9100 rpm than if you were to shift gears and be at (depending on what gear you are in) 6100- 6600 rpm
serious engine damage? i dont know about that but will the engine wear quicker? sure.

For an older guy I must be quicker on the clutch than most people in here.....................I usually shift around 8700rpm and never fall out of VTEC range................it just keeps going.......and going.....and going...........gone <smile>
It doesn't matter how fast you shift, if you shift at 8700 RPMs in 1st gear, you will fall out of VTEC going into 2nd gear, unless your clutch is slipping. At 8700 RPMs in 1st gear, you are going 42 MPH. An infinitely fast shift would put you in 2nd gear at 42 MPH, which is about 5700 RPMs. This is definitely out of VTEC on a stock ECU.
