Default SC owners.....

I was wondering how many of you replaced your clutch after installing your SC. If you did can you tell me....

1. What brand you went with and cost for parts and labor.
2. Was the stock clutch slipping alot?
3. How long you've had it and any problems?
4. where is a good palce to order it.

thanks

I got my Vortech Supercharger installed about 1000 miles ago. I knew I needed a clutch as soon as I drove the car after the install.

1. I ordered Clutchmaster Stage 4 clutch and a Toda lightweight flywheel yesterday. Cost was $953 for the clutch shipped 2 day air and $520 for the flywheel shipped two day air. The dealer is charging me around $550 to install them and that is with a 10% discount because I bought the car from them. All it in it is a little over $2000.

I spoke at length with Jose @ Clutchmasters, and with Mike(m777erlin) and John @ Evolution Autosports. Jose felt that Stage 3 was right at the limit of my setup, and if I planned to add power in the future, I would exceed it. Several of the guys at Evo run the Stage 4 setup in S2000s and other cars. (FYI Stage 3 and 4 are the same price so that wasn't a factor.)

2. Yes, I used to be able to chirp the tires in a 1-2 shift before the supercharger, now I can't because of clutch slip, and I won't even think about launching the car. I've also noticed it slipping under heavy load(like 6th gear), or when I power shift it slips instead of grabs and the change from gear to gear is less pronounced.

3. It gets installed Thursday and Friday by my dealer. So I can't comment on this(yet).

4. I ordered the clutch from Clutchmasters (www.clutchmasters.com) and the Toda flywheel from the North American Distributor for Toda: AKH Trading (www.todaracing.com)

I probably overpaid, but I needed them ASAP, and no, I REPEAT, NO tuning shops stock these are they are $$$ and special order. If I didn't need them right away I probably could have saved myself a few hundred $$$. C'est la vie!

Hope this helps. I'll try to post here again after I have spent some time with the new setup.

1. I am still using the OEM Honda S2000 Clutch
2. Only if I drive like an idiot. The clutch could slip when my car was stock but it has more to do with technique than physical limitations.
3. Stock clutch 12,000 miles on an SC including 5 track days, 12 autocross days, etc.
4. Why bother? What is wrong with the stock clutch?

Have you dynoed your car? If so how much power are you putting to the rear wheels?

The only way I would say technique has anything to do with clutch slip is the difference between driving like a grandma and driving aggressively. There is no way I could shift differently and drive fast/aggressively and not slip my clutch. I don't know if that is due to my setup (Vortech Supercharger, Proflow throttle body(70.1mm), Mugen headers and dual Ti exhaust,

No issues for the first few thousand miles, but recently I have noticed a little clutch slippage with aggrssive driving as well. Would love to hear other experiences and what replacements have worked well.

Does anyone have the stock rear diff and drive shafts? How are these holding up with the S/C? Any daily drivers (S/C) here? And how has that worked out?

My Stock Clutch slipped when getting on it. No doubt.
Replaced it with what you see below.
Still running stock drive shaft and rear end. So, far.

I bet that the difference between jerrypeterson and Jenner is that the '00 clutch is stronger than the '02. I have an '02 that is mostly stock, and my clutch slips all the time. If I "power shift" from 2nd to 3rd at an autocross, I sometimes wonder if the clutch is ever going to grab hold.
