Hey guys, I have a loud screeching sound from the engine bay when I start up the car. I have pretty much isolated it to the serpentine belt but I suspect the tensioner pulley bearing may need replacing as well. I am planning to replace the belt with a goodyear gatorback belt and looking into input for whether I should also replace the tensioner pulley or the whole tensioner assembly as well. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

 

start with the belt. if then noise is gone. leave it. if it doesnt go away. replace the whole tensioner. the pulley alone wont really do much

Have replaced both the tensioner pulley (not the whole tensioner) and the idler pulley. This cured the screeching sound. Also running a Gator belt.

 

I had the same issue and it was the starter making noise.

 

hahai forgot that the pulleys have bearings that can cause noises. im so used to replacing corolla belts and complete tensions cuz the tensions would fail

 

replaced the belt and the sound has not come back since. thanks again
