Default Secondary O2 sensor

Hi,

on my MY 05 I get sporadic CELs when I use a berck testpipe even it features the built in O2 sensor fix. My concern is that I might have power loss as the O2 sensor fix seems not to work robust on my car, the ecu might get inconsistent data and therefore the ecu would switch in a safe mode or control the a/f ratio in the wrong way.

Having this in mind I disconnected the secondary O2 sensor now. By this I always have a cel. However I think the ECU could handle a disconnected sensor better than one that delivers wrong data. Any thoughts on this?

Thanks,

Robert

I wouldnt. I think it can create problems down the line that will be costly. Better to attack the problem instead of ignoring it.

Dont let that bump turn into cancer.

Just my opinion.

Just a matter of view. I don`t want to ignore the ECU gettting invalid data from insufficient sensor fix of the test pipe so I attack the problem by deconnecting the secondary O2 sensor cable.

I believe the only point of the sensor is to tell you if the cat is working or not. So it won't matter at all if it's plugged in or not. However, the sensor's life will be lessened so it may be better to take it off.

I would go buy an anti-fouler and try that out. At least that way you'll actually know when you have a REAL CEL.

It's my understanding the the 2nd o2 sensor is there just to confirm proper cat functioning as well.

With either O2 sensor disconnected, the ECU will always run in open loop.
