Red face Shift lever wobble (not the normal "shaking")

I have about 115k on the car, mounts, etc, 30k on the AP2 tranny.
N/A with Fujitsubo exhaust, ACT PP/disk & Toda FW

I've seen the normal shaking of the shift lever. This is more of a bigger "wobble" than a "shake" (hope that makes sense).

I happens usually during hard acceleration past ~5k rpms. Could this be due to older tranny mounts? Could it be something else?

Car runs smooth/normal otherwise.

I'll try to get a video.

There is a bushing on the end of the shifter where it meets the tranny. The bushings break very easily maybe it might need replacing. All you have to do is take out the shifter and pop on a new one.

I'd have to agree with dank on this one. I broke the bushing on mine and it shook like hell. Really straight forward and easy to replace. Just take out the shifter, pop on the new bushing (pre-grease it though), and re-install it.

You want to make sure the new bushing is warmed up and greased before you pop it on or it will crack. I put the bushing in warm water for a while to soften it up a bit. The bushing is no more than 2 bucks so its worthwhile buying 2 in case one breaks.

When my car did that, it was both of the engine mounts.

With your mileage, I'd start there.

^^^ So it was your engine mounts and not the tranny mounts? How do you check the engine mounts for wear or malfunction? What should I look for when checking them?

I checked the bushing on the bottom of the shift lever, still in good condition.
I've also paid closer attention and noticed that it it "wobbles" when going over rough roads/speed bumps. (I'm also on Tein RA's on stiffest setting)

Between that and my high mileage I'm inclined to think it's either the motor mounts (like Ray said) or tranny mounts.
I will be replacing in a few months. I'll post any findings.
