Default Shift Lights

Has anyone installed sequential shift lights?

I'm looking at installing some for track days. At my last track day, I brushed the limiter more than I'd like. On a fast 2nd gear corner, where I needed 3rd mid corner, I couldn't see the rev counter very well (stock seats/seat belts, so I'm moving around a lot!), which made it hard to judge.

Any thoughts/experiences on what to go for, and how to mount/interface would be appreicated. I'm after the shift lights for track use only - so a removeable installation would be ideal.

Thanks,
-Brian.

Yes, it was so nice that I want to do it too.
All you see are three LEDs, the controller is in the "glove box".

Update: After a tip off I've found a neat solution:

Shift Lights

Lights that just connect to the power supply, and don't need a tacho feed. Should be perfect for trying them out on track, before plumbing a system in.

I posted this on another thread as well. The two i have used with great success are:

http://www.spatechnique.com/shiftlight.html

http://www.aceserve.co.uk/nonframes/ss2.html

Depends on how many lights you want. Tell them that you want to use them for rallying or somthing like that since they are not big in that market and might cut the price.

the hyper form unit is the same unit as mine called AXAS

interestingly; the two minor concerns in the link above i can address.

1st, they said the would prefer multicolored lights to all red. we'll they make a version(axas) and i tried that one initially. IMO, all red is better. why? colors were green-yellow-yellow-red. problem was the green and yellow bulbs are colore when off, red is clear. yellow false illuminates when back lit by sun, and less conspicuous a change anyway since already collored. ALSO, they talk about LOOKING directly at the unit and being blinded.... DOH!!!! that's the whole point... u r able to NOT look at and detect it thru per vision. i think that's the point of these devices.

on the other hand if other colors were clear when unlit it would be the way to go...but is entirely not needed, and extra colors don't improve, and may decrease the main task of the unit to protect over rev. Colors help secondarily if u set to specific rpms, but can be distracting ...don't worry. i may mount both my units and have them set at different trigerr pts and locations, colored one 6k 7k 8k 9k, all red 7.9k 8.3k 8.7k 9.0k. or set colored one for 1st gear optimum pt(earlier) and red one for other gears!!!!!

2nd, axas makes the unit in both silver and CHARCOAL, and u get less reflection from charcoal and lights stand out more from contrast. i would paint the silver top with flat black to decrease the annoying reflection.

also, these are sorta well made but are inexpensive devices. u must carefully check whether it works right out of box as some can be crap from the get go. but if works ok at 1st, they are very reliable and consistent and clever as hell!!!!
