Default Shifter problems... Help

I took my car in and got a new clutch from a family friend. The clutch is awesome, car runs great. Only thing is the shifter is stuck in the down position. For example when you shift into reverse you have to push the shifter down, well mine won't stay in normal position, its always down and it makes it annoying to shift. Does anyone know what I can do to fix the problem???

Did you forget to reinstall the spring at the bottom of the shifter?

Here's a picture of it.

That's what it sounds like. Take out shifter and take a look to make sure it's in there correctly.

Yeah, sounds like the spring is either not in there or is broken.

If the sping is OK, another possibility is some debris got into the area where the pivot ball sits. When you pressed the shifter down the first time you went into reverse it stuck there, the tolerance with the pivot ball is very tight. I was pulled my hair out trying to trouble shoot the same issue even though everything was well greased and the spring worked fine.
