Default shifter wont go into 5th after regrease

i recently replaced all the old bushings in the shifter assembly along with new grease. now it wont shift into 5th gear. does anyone know what it can possibly be? it was shifting through all gears prior to regreasing the shifter.

I neglected to properly torque the 3 shifter retention bolts after replacing all the shifter components. The shifter loosened up and would not shift into 5/6. Not sure if you have the same issue, but worth checking.

Did you put the shift lever back into the same orientation?

The shifter itself is bent slightly. I believe the peak of the bend is pointed toward the driverside. If you put it in incorrectly (i.e. 180 deg) you have to start all over.

Before you do that be extra extra sure the shifter is not in backwards. Several people reported that you can insert it in backwards, which seems like the most likely scenario here..

That TSB you reference is just a guide on how to disassemble the shifter (ie. for greasing) with an addition step for the underside gasket.
