Default shifting problems

Before i start, ive done plenty of research on this and still cant determine what, if anything, is wrong!

I cant really explain it either which is what is pissing me off the most, if i knew what was wrong it wouldnt bother me as much cause i would just fix it. But, sometimes when i shift into second and third gear, mainly third gear, it feels like the shift lever is hitting something. Ill pass the shift gate, then right after that it just feels like the shifter is hitting something inside the tranny. Very difficult to explain as i have never felt this before in any other manual car.

Ive read the threads that say always shift after 5K rpms. That does work and the shift feels very smooth past 5k. But i feel like that is avoiding a problem and not fixing the problem. Ive tried shifting fast, slow, soft, hard, just putting pressure on the shift lever and letting it fall into gear. Anything i do, if its before 5k rpms, about 50% of the time i will feel the lever hitting something. Even have a 1lb countersunk shift knob.

Ive had the car looked at by a reputable mechanic here in orlando, billy if anyone knows who he is, who said my master and slave are good, not leaking, and my clutch is good. A buddy and i regreased the shifter also which did not help the problem. I just want to know if the way im shifting the car is wrong or if something is wrong with my tranny that needs fixed

Anyone one have any ideas??

If every one else has the same symptoms, and everyone else states the same thing to shift above x rpm, I would say it's fairly safe to say there's nothing wrong. I for one had the same symptoms you are describing and as soon as I was shifting above 4k it was much, much better. Sometimes cars have little quirks that will seem an annoyance, yet if it enhances another aspect, such as being able to constantly handle 9k rpm shifts, it's worth it.

you are right in the sense that a lot of people experience this issue, whats concerning is that when you look through threads similar to this one..you see different answers from everyone..ranging from nothing is wrong, to having to rebuild the tranny..seems as if no one actually knows if this is a problem or not

That is true, and if I recall correctly the syncros were updated in later models. However, the normal shift range is around 3k on cars with an average of 7k red line. If you add 2k on to compensate for the higher range in the s2ooo, you'll be at 5k, which would make it normal, plus there's know torque below 5k!

Unless its grinding, popping out or refusing to go in, or a slight crunch at higher rpm, I wouldn't worry too much.
