Shouldn't I have a CHECK ENGINE LIGHT?

My check engine light came on last week, I took it in and it was diagnosed as a bad 02 Sensor. After they diagnosed, the check engine light has not come back on. Shouldn't I have a check engine light? I know you can reset it but usually comes back on when it throws a code again. The check engine light has not come back on for a week now. But I know the 02 sensor and CAT are defective and have not been replaced.

I had the same thing happen on my old CRX. It came on once, I reset the code/computer and it didn't come on for a couple of weeks. Reset it again and it didn't come back on for while. After a few weeks more of this it started coming on much more frequently until I finally replaced it.
