Default Silicone around headlights?

I have the headlights off to sand and polish them. Quite pitted and a bit hazy.

I notice that there is clear silicone caulking around the plastic casing or whatever you would call it. Looks like a previous owner did this at some point.

My question is - is there any point in removing this caulking and reapplying, seeing as I have the lights out? Or leave well enough alone? There is no moisture in the lights and the car will very rarely be driven in the rain, so other than washing, these lights are not gonna see water.

Thanks for any thoughts folks would like to share.

If it's not leaking or showing when the headlights are on the car: leave it alone

Leave them alone but you may want to apply a film (Expel or 3M) to the lenses to keep them looking nice without having to re-polish every six months.

Thanks for the replies.

Yup I have half a bottle of carpro Dlux. I'll put a coating or 2 on the lights.
