YASQFA (Yet Another Supercharger Question From Andrew):

What is the most important single bit of data for monitoring the proper functioning of a supercharger setup (or any FI setup, I guess)?

After thinking about it, my guess was Air-fuel ratio, since it is too lean of a mixture that leads to all sorts of problems, no?

I've had other people say that Fuel Pressure is more important, but doesn't it really all boil down to a proper fuel-air mixture? Even if the Fuel Pressure is ok, that doesn't guarantee a proper AFR ratio I don't think.

Based on the above thoughts, I'm thinking a wideband O2 sensor with a display (e.g. one of those PLX units) might be the single and most important monitoring device I could get for an FI application. (not saying that other data is not useful, just that this is probably the most important).

Please let me know if you think I'm full of it!

if i were going FI, i'd get:

Oil Pressure guage
Fuel Pressure
Boost gauge
Wideband A/F gauge

and mayyyyyybe an EGT gauge for back-up.

yes, I'd get all of those, too (or rather will at some point). Just musing about which is the most critical.

Hm.. interesting. I know that oil pressure is a good thing to have, but is it really more important than knowing if you are running lean (ie - an AFR readout)? about EGT I know less. Exactly what does a too-high EGT reading mean? is that also an indicator of lean-ness?

E.G.T is more turbo oreinted, Since turbos opertate at a much hotter temperature then superchargers. EGT's help you properly tune the car and also let you know when to get off the gas or turn down the boost, 1600F for a couple of seconds could melt pistons and could mean that you are running to lean.

I am getting my UR turbo kit installed on Monday, and I already have an A/F Ratio Guage and Oil Pressure and was going to pick up a Boost and EGT gauge today, but didn't think about Fuel Pressure, thanks.
