Slave cylinder going bad?
Hi all,
I have a MY02 S2K with 66k miles and on its original clutch. About 1 1/2 years ago my clutch was stuck on the floor so I had my master clutch cylinder changed the the problem was solved. Now, I'm thinking my slave cylinder is going bad. Here are the symptoms: when the clutch is pressed all the way in it sometimes feels sticky when it's pressed all the way down on the floor(when I lift my foot). Is this normal? Also, I can press my clutch ~ 1.5in before I feel any pressure. And my engagement point is near the top of the clutch. From the symptom I have given do you guys think its the clutch, slave cylinder or something else? If it's the slave where is it located?
Thanks

My guess is you need to grease your clutch fork. It's what the slave cyl actuates on to open the clutch. I had this issue as well I believe. Mine felt gritty and was difficult to push down (compared to other s's I've driven). The increased force can cause the master and slave to go bad over time due to the increased preasure on the seals. After greasing mine 2 years ago, I've been trouble free and my leaking master cyl (spots on carpet) stopped leaking. Honda makes a special grease for this in a small plastic container. Alot of people change the clutch and clean up all of the parts and forget to re-grease the fork. You'll have to use a butter knife to get the grease in there as the fork cannot be removed completely from the trans housing. If you do a search you should be able to find a writeup. Hope this helps
Sorry just saw you have original clutch... makes me doubt that grease is the issue unless the factory messed up... might want to try it though as it takes 20 minutes. The slave is directly under the center of the car held by 2 bolts on the drivers side of the tranny and there's a small rubber dust boot that protects the actuator. Look for leaking brake fluid. Do not press the clutch down with the slave removed! My experience with slaves is that when they go, the pedal will get light and spongy as air is being introduced into the lines.
I am on my original clutch at around 50k (pretty sure prior owner didn't replace it anyway), and about half a year ago experienced simliar issues as the OP. The clutch pedal suddenly became "sticky" and would even make an awful noise when pushing in. I did some reading and found this DIY: https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/370...-clutch-pedal/
I re-greased the end of the slave cylinder rod, as what was on there from the factory was..well no longer grease. I didn't grind it down or grease the clutch pivot fork, but so far so good. Hope that helps.

Gad this issue. Honda greased the pushrod ball tip first - small effect. Used a butter knife to grease the fork and solved like night and day. I've found this friction causes the clutch hydraulics to leak due to higher piston forces
