Default Slightly more black smoke.

Hi all

quick specks.
Ap1, stage 2 cams and valve train, AEM EMS.

I noticed my s2k's muffler tips are getting black faster, also when I wot I can see some Black smoke on the back.

I had my AEM air/fuel gauge off since I wanted to re route it so I don't know exactly if the ratio was affected.

Coolant is ok, oil is ok. Smoke is not blue or white is pitch black. I used to have a turbo civic and it did that too coz it was slightly richer mixed. But on the s2k could a defective spark plug cause that?

hook up the uego again and check, a dead spark plug with cause this too but you'd have a check engine light about a miss fire would you not?

Yeah, you are right, maybe the sparks are not bad but near too...
Need to check them

No CEL with the AEM - for anything.

I'd start with a plug check for sure.

With AEM (which is what I got too), you really need to set temp correction tables in order to keep the AFR the same. Intake air temp table needs to be very precise, with the weather getting warmer and all.

I had that problem, but with AFRs going to the lean side.

Somewhere on this forum I saw correct tables someone had posted. They actually took out the engine coolant sensor, and made measurements as they were warming up the sensor. Then they took the readings, and extrapolated them onto the EMS's chart, and they were different. So EMS is reading temperature wrong.

But the new (correct) temp/voltage settings need to be entered into the EMS _before_ you tune.

Same goes for the air intake temperature sensor.

I'm know the basic for tuning, but I never performed one. I'm not confident doing it and screwing something badly!

I will perform normal maintenance and if problem persist go for a re tune.

Thank you for pointing that map issue !
