Default Small Accident

So I'm changing my seatbelts, and Im stuck. They're under the roll hoops - do I have to remove the front face of the hoops? I know if I do, its gonna be hell to reattach them, and Id rather not.

Anyone with any useful information, please post up! If I figure this out, I'll post up a DIY seatbelt/airbag install for people like me.

Yes, it was bald tires. but I was going so slow the impact only left scratches on the front bumper, but was somehow enough to set off the airbags and lock the seatbelts. damn you honda! damn you for making a safe car...

Thanks!

You can change everything without separating the plastic. I can't remember off hand if you need to remove the hoops from the car, but DO NOT separate the covers. You may need to replace the airbag sensor too. I can't remember if it's a one shot gel pack or an inertia sensor. Sorry about the wreck. Good luck.

Hey SgtB, Thanks for the info! I already removed the covers...bleh, I knew I shouldnt have but I couldnt figure it out, so I did. My next DIY will be how to put em back together I think with 3M gel superglue they will come together again. I doubt it will be the same strength, but hey - ill give it a shot.

By the way guys: You DONT have to buy a new set of seatbelts - that is if you dont mind not having the auto-retract+lock mechanism. The stock seatbelt will automatically lock without the auto-retract if the angle changes/sudden stops happen. I can do/show a DIY on how to do this - I already tried it on my old set of seatbelts. I did 'lol' at the sticker that said 'dont remove, explosive...as I then proceeded to whack the crap out of the cover with a hammer to remove the cover. . I dont recommend doing this/I hold no responsibility for anything this will do, but still - might be better than the couple bills/whatever OEM Honda charges.

Whatever the reason, give me a PM and I will tell you how to do it.

I'm still waiting on the airbags so nothing is connected and the entire car is still in parts.

Some tips I've found so far:

If youre going to attempt this:

1) remove both seats.
2) Remove the covers along the door: The one that houses the gas cap open button on the driver side.
3) Remove the ENTIRE roll hoop - dont do what I did and remove the covers unless I figure out a way to attach the two nicely - just be warned.
4) Before you get to the seatbelts, detach the SRS harness from the belts: This can be done from the trunk, remove the spare tire cover, the spare tire, and get to the back of the hoops. The two wires are clipped on to the car. They will pop right off the car: The connectors however have to be squeezed like a syringe? Idk how to explain it, if you have a old set you'll see. Its not like the sideways clip on most normal stuff.

More updates for the sucker unlucky as me to get blown airbags for a low speed impact!

_by the way, I just checked the prices on Majestic Honda for prices of seatbelts/airbags/SRS brain.

Total, MSRP (hawaii dealers suck so they mark up waay more, idk about the dealers around you..Majestic is a little cheaper)

Seat Belt: 300 (x2) = 600
SRS Unit = 600
Driver side Airbag: 600
Passenger side Airbag: 1000

Grand Total:2800.

Thats if you get MSRP, and ONLY parts.

IF I had reported this to my insurance, I may have had a totaled car.. this + fr bumper + labor MIGHT have been higher than insurance would be willing to pay. :'(.

ANYWAY, I decided to do this by myself, and with great sellers on s2Ki marketplace, Davgoat and HornyPhil, I was able to pick up everything I needed for sub700. I really recommend them, very prompt replies and everything was shipped almost 24hrs within the day I got into an accident! (ok, shameless plug over...Thanks guys, you guys rock).

Will update soon (hopefully, if fedex can get here fast enough ;()

oh, and I already ordered tires - stupid me for not. ugh.

This is after I told people 'GET TIRES TIRES R IMPORTANTTT!' - (foot in mouth over here)

so yeh. Learn from me, get some damn tires even if they look like they have a few hundred miles left. never know when you'll get caught in a rain and slightly oily roads - spin outs @ low speeds ftl.

Will update in 4 hrs (set time for epoxy) to see if the roll hoops are back together!

Yeah, you need to remove all those damn plastic pieces AFTER removing the seats. I just installed a new soft top motor and frame over the weekend and it was a PITA. Theres 8 14mm bolts I believe that hold the whole Roll hoop assembly. then you can use a 12mm to get to the seatbelt. Whatever you do DO NOT take off the plastic around the roll hoop.

Alrighty, so the airbags still havent gotten here yet - funny how fedex is slower than flat rate USPS box! Got the roll hoop covers back on though, they WILL go back on, but you have to carefully use superglue gel, the 3M or the Duro brand are what I recommend, OR use a good plastic epoxy. make sure you dont get overspray/spillage and wipe it off fast if youre using the epoxy, if youre using the superglue your SOL if you spill it. Put epoxy all over the inside of the cover, hold it together with duct tape/sctoch tape/tie straps and they will come back together and hold.
