Default Smell clutch after launch....

i was on a empty straight away with no car in sight and decided to have a little fun....

I started driving manual not long ago and i decided to try to launch. i didnt push it hard at all.... i only reved to 3 4ish. Anyways after a really weak launch.... probably cant even consider it to be a launch but, after i slowed down, i smelled my clutch burning and the smell finally went away after 10 min or so.... is this normal???

another question:
are you suppose to drop the clutch fast? sry! im a manual tran newbieee

thanx!

Yes it's normal to smell your clutch after abusing it.

Better put your flame suit on. Everone and their brother will tell you that launching this car on stock drivetrain is pretty tricky.

I can tell you that 3-4k RPM is way too low to launch with the S. You need to get it up around 5500-6000 and then SIDESTEP the clutch. This means don't ease it out, don't quickly let it out, just slide your foot off it and let it snap back up. You should get decent wheelspin, and a pretty good launch. I wouldn't do this too often, it's not good for the car by any stretch.

And no, it's not normal to smell your clutch. That means it's burning - which is a BAD thing!

I burnt my clutch before when my car was stock while launching. I did the 6k drop and clutchy no grabby in first or second.

I hear that you can feather the clutch by lauching, is this any better than just straight dropping the clutch?

Also is too much wheel spin not good? Lauching at 6000rpm causes lots of wheel spin before you actually take off into never never land, I guess it also depends on what type of tires you have on the S as well right?.

hehe, this is *better* for the driveline components but absolute hell on the clutch disc.

I used to launch my turbo MR2 this way, it helped build boost and wouldn't bog the car off the line... I don't think it would be neccesary on the S2000 unless you are bogging like crazy or getting massive wheel spin.

Well that depends if you rather replace the clutch or the driveline, at the end it all comes down to what cost less to replace...

Slipping the clutch like that will cause it wear out prematurely. What about the diff and the tranny?
