Our cars burn oil but I would start with the valve seals

Slow down, chief! It might just be a gasket leaking onto the exhaust; Depends where the smoke was coming from. If it's definitely coming from the tail pipe, then yes it's probably valve stem seals or an actual valve. It could also be a clogged PCV valve/system. When was the last time you did a valve adjustment?

Video would help greatly.

Location of the smoke?
Does it smell like burned oil or is it just steam?

Does the car have a test pipe? All the vehicles i've had with no cat (including this one) produce quite a bit of smoke/steam at idle when its cold. Very noticable when pulling away from a stop light.
