Hotter and harsher conditions in Texas. 40 for the summer and 30 for the winter. Not that big enough of a difference that it matters. Thats not going to cuase the smoke.

Correct, but there is no need to use it. I believe 10-30 will handle what we see.

For what it's worth, I was concerned about my ticking on startup, so switched to 5-30. I started consuming oil as well as not stopping the ticking! I'll be back to 10-30 on the next change

Hey S2K_Dallas

If you have not already figured out the problem bring the car to my dealership and I will diagnose it for you. I will even toss in a free oil change!

No chance that, say, you forgot to replace the oil fill cap? I don't mean to insult your intelligence. My poor girlfriend got her Civic serviced, and her *professional mechanic* forgot to put her oil cap on. The worst things can happen to the best of us.

Keep us posted on the results. I have a few miles less than you and have gone through 1 1/4 quarts of oil (Castrol GTX non syn 10w30). From what I've read, your oil consumption is certainly not abnormal.
