Default Smooth out Powerband

I have had my S2k for a while now, and have come to the understanding that there is not too much you can do to extract power from the engine. However, you can make the powerband smoother or make the engine run more efficient. Now, how do i go about doing this?

Is it simply adding Intake, headers and exhaust?

or

do i need to add the thermostat, throttle body and variours other engine tuning items?

let me know guys!

thanks a bunch

Don't know about other systems but, the Mugen header and exhaust will add mid range power and smooth out the transition at vtec. Add a bored out throttle body and hang on.

Cooling is very important to avoid power loss due to heat soak, esp. on warm days; look into the Hondata intake gasket and Injen or AEM CAI. Tstat and throttle body make no power difference, but have their uses. (Try a search if interested.)

Header and exhaust won't buy much on the dyno, but can significantly reduce weight (up to 50 lbs combined) and completely change the sound of the engine.

When you're done with other engine mods, get a VAFC and have it tuned (you're in OC, so call up Ultimate Lurker). This is the most direct way to optimize power at every rpm.

Good luck,
John

here is a list of my mods, I feel that the transition of Vtec in my cat is very smooth, and a nice hard strong pull now.

200.6 is what my dyno was last month on the 28th, 140.6 ftlbs of torque. with out tunned vafc and desno Ik24's pre-gapped at .0032.

cooling mods: spoon thermoswitch and stat. (hondata type)Custom intake manifold insulator gasket, keeps heat soak from the head into the intake, can reduce temps of 25 degrees(www.s2000.org). Throttle body by-pass is also apart of the gasket. Denso IK24's. The car runs strong all day, like it would feel like it does on a cool morning.

lost about 28-30lbs with DC sports SS header and SS RM Racing Dual exhaust. No power lost and no real power gains, lost weight = improved acceleration.

Aem CAI: 5-6 ftlbs of torque over all and peaks of 10-20 hp in certain rpms areas. Over all no telling since I dyno'd with aem cai, header and exhaust.
But one owner had aem cai, stock header and exhaust and denso ik24 and pulled 201.4-201.6'ish.

I love the way my car feels and sounds awesome now. My girlfriend loves it, she is such a car chick though. She loves down shifting and hitting the throtle under and over pass and hearing a healthy rooooooooarrrrrrrrr!

buying the harness and tunning the vafc is next.

P.S picked up used 6 months VAFC and header from a board sponsor for 400.00 shipped and RMracing exhaust used for 6 months for 550.00 shipped. sweet deals. 217.00 on the AEM CAI. 80.00 for stat and switch. 120.00 for gasket and installation 4 hours of work. Denso's for 11.99 each + 6.95 2 day UPS. 4 miles per gallon increase on first tank of gas with Denso's and stronger feel all the way through the RPM band.

If you are close to So Cal. Go and see Ultimate Lurker. He is in Torrance. He will help you smooth out your power curve with a VAFC on a dyno. Give him a call at (310) 787-7123.
